“Normal” mold test results still causing issues

This case from Tullahoma is one of the most common stories we hear: a family moves into a new home, and suddenly the allergy symptoms start. The kids wake up with stuffy noses every morning, and the parents can’t figure out why.

They tried everything—changing pillows and comforters, running air purifiers, taking allergy meds—but nothing seemed to help.

Even their mold test came back “well within normal limits,” as you can see from the report.

Under our usual mold testing rubric, we wouldn’t have recommended treatment. But the family was at their wits’ end and decided to move forward with Claro’s remediation anyway. They knew something was wrong—and when it comes to mold, 50% of tests can come back with false negatives. The mold may simply not have been actively sporing at the time of the test.

Ultimately, they had two options: fix the problem or move out.

After we did our half day treatment, they stayed in the home that night, and the next morning—for the first time since moving in—everyone in the family woke up with clear sinuses. It felt “like a miracle,” they told us. A few days later, their post-treatment mold test came back clean.

If your test comes back borderline and you’re unsure whether to treat, ask us about this case study. We’re happy to share more details about the family’s symptoms and why it made sense for them to go ahead with treatment.
